Inauguration of community center and synagoge for Spanish speaking immigrants in Be’er Sheva

At June 1st (Yom Yerushalayim) there was a very special happening in Be’er Sheva which is connected with Shavuot, the accepting of Torah. A new synagogue and community center was inaugurated in Be’er Sheva in area Hey by Beit Moriah in cooperation with the municipality of Be’er Sheva. This synagogue and community center will be used by Spanish speaking new immigrants. Special about it is that far most of the synagogue attendants come from Maranos (Anonymous Jews) background from South America. Their ancestors were forced to give up their observance of Torah in the 15th Century by the Spanish inquisition. Now their offspring embraced the Torah instructions again and made Aliyah. Most of them followed the giyur course with Beit Moriah in order to give their reconnection to the Jewish people and Torah formal status through the National Beit Din. Rabbi Israel Worcman made big effort to set up a community center for them with a synagogue in order to help them integrate in the Israel society. The owner of a building company (Lillo) in Be’er Sheva donated in memory of his mother the Sefer Torah and interior of the synagogue and community Center. It was such a happiness to see the lost souls coming back to the people of Israel and the land of Israel. HaRav Shimon Cohen and vice-mayor Avi Worcman were also present at the happy event.
