We are continuously seeking new ways to expand our programs and serve the residents of Be’er Sheva. Below, please find a list of our upcoming projects and ideas for future expansion.

New Home for 'Girls at Risk'
One of the projects we run in Be’er Sheva in conjunction with Be’er Sheva’s Municipality is the ‘homes for girls at risk’ project. In the deprived neighborhoods of Be’er Sheva live several families who are considered  ‘problematic’; one-parent (unemployed) families, families with drug problems and/or families in which the children are neglected. In order to prevent these types of girls from ending up in Bedouin or Arab families because of the attention they get from young Bedouins and Arabs who are looking around in these neighborhoods searching for their ‘victims’, Beit Moriah set up homes for these girls at the request of the Municipality. In these homes we give these girls attention, help with homework, help them to learn to take care for themselves, help to earn some pocket money (by making flower bouquets) in order that they can buy clothes for themselves. They come to the homes every day from 4 PM until 9 PM in order to keep them off the streets and in a fun and healthy environment. They go home at 9 PM so that they do not become estranged from their natural families.
The Municipality has now asked us (out of necessity) to open another home for girls at risk in another neighborhood. The Municipality only has the funds to finance a part of the project. As soon as we find more sponsors for this project we will immediately begin work to open it.

New Food Parcel Truck
A few years ago, the ‘Sepharade Federation du Montreal’ donated a truck and a van to Beit Moriah for the purpose of delivering food parcels to the needy. These vehicles aided us in delivering tens of thousands of food packages to families in Be’er Sheva. However, the upkeep of these older automobiles has become more and more expensive over the years. Beit Moriah is currently seeking donations from individuals or communities for the purchase of a new truck to continue our food delivery program to needy families. Our total fundraising goal for this project is ILS 160,000.00 (EUR 33,500.00 / USD 42,700.00).

New JCC
Due to the high demand at our current facility, we are planning the construction of a new JCC in the Hey neighborhood, to be built in 2014. The new JCC will serve a variety of community needs, offering activities for children, teens, adults, senior citizens, veterans, and immigrants, and providing more Be’er Sheva residents with the opportunity to utilize the community space. The center will also attract new families to the Hey neighborhood. The new facility will contain a library, daycare center, computer center, an activity center for senior citizens and new immigrants, as well as an expanded family services center. The family services center will provide a comprehensive array of counseling and social services aimed at strengthening family relationships and providing assistance for any and all domestic issues. Upon completion, Beit Moriah’s Beit Midrash will also move to the new building. Our fundraising goal for this project is ILS 20,000,000.00 (EUR 4,000,000.00 / USD 5,500,000.00).

Expanded Kishurim Program
Following the exciting success of this year’s new Family Alliance program in our kindergartens, we are seeking to implement these courses in all schools and daycares under Beit Moriah’s supervision. Expanding these popular lecture series will allow Beit Moriah to fortify its relationships with the parents of all our students and provide valuable supplementary education for these parents. Additionally, each lecture will be accompanied by a special activity for the children, allowing their parents to attend the seminars worry-free. The operating costs of the Family Alliance lecture series include speakers’ fees, children’s activity expenses, refreshments, and administrative fees for 85 sessions per year. We are looking for donors interested in contributing to, or fully sponsoring a year’s worth of Kishurim events, beginning at ILS 200,000.00 (EUR 40,360.00 / USD 56,100.00).

Sponsor a Girl at Risk
Beit Moriah’s Girls at Risk program provides valuable support and shelter to teenage girls from troubled family environments or families in need within the Be’er Sheva community. We are currently seeking individual or community donors interested in sponsoring a girl in our program for a calendar year. Your generous sponsorship will provide funding for equipment, staff costs, and most importantly the special activities the girls participate in, such as photo therapy sessions and self-defense training. The cost of sponsoring one girl for one year is ILS 20,000.00 (EUR 4,040.00 / USD 5,610.00).

Beit Moriah sets goal to provide 1000 families with food baskets for Pesach

Holidays are generally a joyous time in Judaism, as families come together to pray, converse, and most importantly, eat. Meals are an integral part of Jewish holidays, and the Seder of Passover is no different. Passover requires even more food than your average Shabat meal, and it is generally a frenzied time for supermarkets, mothers and their kitchens.

One must remember that although it is a nervous and frenzied time for households, rarely does one worry about where the food will come from. We are thankful that we can afford to purchase the extra delicacies for Passover. However, there are many families who are nervous for other reasons- where their food will come from.

Though a resurgent community with many up and coming businesses and centers, Be’er Sheva still has about 500 needy families, as produced by a list by the local municipality. These 500 families receive a weekly basket from Beit Moriah’s Merkaz Ha’Chesed food distribution service. Passover, however, is a different story. More food is required to pick up, organize, and deliver. In essence, it is too much work for the 5 or so full time employees who work in the food distribution center.

Thankfully, there are about 20-25 regular volunteers in any given week who come to help Beit Moriah with the food organizing and distribution. For Passover, the number of volunteers balloons to 75 people who come out to assist Beit Moriah in any way. While the volunteers are of all age types, amazingly, the majority of them older. And just last week an elite combat unit from the IDF (Sayeret Givati) came and lent a hand.

The baskets for Passover are filled with chicken, matza, wine, oil, sugar, salt, rice, jelly, coffee, spices, as well as fruits and vegetables. Beit Moriah tries to ensure that each family has the essentials to cook for a full Seder, so as to fulfill and enjoy the mitzvah of the Seder and celebrating Passover.

Beit Moriah delivers the food baskets to the doorsteps of the needy families for three particular reasons. Firstly, many of the families are embarrassed to come to Beit Moriah and request food. It is more orderly and respectful for Beit Moriah to simply deliver food baskets to the needy families as specified by the municipality. Secondly, many of the needy families are already older, and cannot travel anyhow. And finally, a portion of the needy people are too sick or disabled to leave their homes. One of the needy women had no legs, and is bound to a wheelchair. Another is blind. These types of people deserve a Passover Seder just like everyone else. That is why Beit Moriah and its sterling staff and volunteers strive to raise the quality of life for each person who needs it, so that every needy person in Be’er Sheva can have a happy, respectable Passover. When one’s spirit is lifted, he or she can enjoy the holiday to the fullest.
We give everyone the oppertunity to help by donating to this project. For more information on how to donate, go to our 'Get involved' page or to the Donationpage to donate.
